Bequests

A bequest has a lasting legacy, benefiting future generations and allowing fara Australia to continue to support world leading research to bring more effective treatments and a cure to FA patients. .

Including a gift in your Will is undoubtedly one of the most enduring gifts that you can possibly give. Once you take care of your family and loved ones, you can then help others in a way that honours your life’s values. We know it’s a very important decision and we want to make sure you have the right support along the way.

  • A bequest is a donation left to a person or organisation given via your will.

    Your bequest will be directed towards funding research into FA.

  • Anyone can leave a bequest. Every gift, however small or large, is important and allows us to support our Mission. Every bequest is gratefully accepted and acknowledged.

    Please note that you can remain anonymous and/or keep your gift amount undisclosed.

  • A bequest can take the form of:

    • A specified amount of money

    • A proportion (or whole) of an estate

    • Property

    • Stocks or shares

    • Works of art, collections or jewellery

    • The proceeds of a life insurance, annuity or trust

    Providing an estimated amount of the value of your bequest is not required. We will always respect your privacy and wishes.

  • If you already have a will, adding a bequest to fara is simple. Your solicitor can prepare a codicil form.

    A codicil is a short, additional legal document used to make minor changes, amendments, or alterations to an existing will. It can be a cost-effective way to make a minor change to a will.

    To be legally valid, the codicil must be signed and executed in front of witnesses, like a will. The codicil is then kept with the will.

    If you have not yet made a Will, your legal adviser can assist.

  • Yes, it is worthwhile. Even modest gifts can be substantial in helping fund critical FA research.

  • Wording for your bequest can be as simple as the following example:

    "I give, devise and bequeath, free of all duties and taxes, * to Friedreich Ataxia Research Association (ABN) 74 156 394 973 for the purpose of funding research."

    insert one of the following:

    • the whole (or ...%) of the residue of my estate

    • the whole (or ...%) of my estate

    • the sum of $ (amount)

    • (Details of a particular asset, such as shares or property.)

  • This is your choice. However, advising fara of your bequest enables us to express our gratitude during your lifetime. We can also keep you updated on Research Grants and other relevant events.
